When you’ve been burned enough times in life by those who should have had your back, you tend to become very selective about who you allow into your inner circle. You should have every confidence that those who are there are like the friend that sticks closer than a brother and only want the best for you and vice-versa. Value your inner circle; protect it and by all means keep others out who do not have your best interest at heart.
