Have you ever worked on a project and your computer completely went kaput? Well, that very thing happened to me this past week. My laptop decided that it was tired of all the files I was storing on it over the past few years and it just gave up completely and left me with a blue screen that basically said: “Device not found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk.”
My tech guy took a look at it, ran a diagnostics test and pretty much said that everything had been lost and he would have to install an entirely new operating system. I could have been crushed by that horrendous news, considering the scores of book files, covers and images that were on it, but I wasn’t because thankfully, I had backups of almost everything stored somewhere else. Almost everything — except the book I’m currently working on! So, I now have to start from scratch again and that sucks, but what else can I do?
I had a choice in that instance: Either go into a deep depression, pull out my hair and decide that I’m not writing it anymore, or just buckle down and get to writing all over again. Of course, I decided to go with the latter. Murder in The Family begs to be written and nothing will stop that from happening, so I’m back to work and working OVERTIME!
